Coffee Powered Car: It's a coffee lover's dream come true, and a chance to use those leftover coffee grinds - a car that literally runs on coffee.
A STRONG cup of coffee can wake you up in the morning, but can you use it to drive to work?
A British team of racers created a car powered solely by coffee beans – and broke the world speed record, the Daily Mail reported.
The modified Rover SD1 broke the Guinness World Record for a car powered by organic waste.
The previous record was set by the US in 2007 for its Beaver XR7 which was powered by wood chips.
But the Rover beat this record by almost 60km at the Elvington Race Track near York, topping out at more than 107km per hour.

Engineer Martin Bacon from County Durham and the Teesdale Conservation Volunteers of Durham stripped the old rover of more than 226kg of weight, fitting it with filters and a “gasification system”.
The gas generator then burns wood and coffee granules at more than 700C creating a synthetic gas made up of carbon monoxide, hydrogen and methane which powers the car’s combustible engine.

“Some of the clean gas is also being compressed to 150 PSI and injected directly into the manifold to achieve top speed," it reads on the Coffee Car website.
“The cooling system is configured using an inter-cooler with two 12-volt fans attached.”
The car was based on a design of a coffee-powered Volkswagen Sirocco built in March last year for the BBC’s science show Bang Goes the Theory.

The Volkswagen currently holds the Guinness World Record for the longest distance driven by a coffee powered car after it made the 337km trip from London to Manchester.
